This paper discusses how high unemployment is both an economic and social problem. It has been discussed that, unemployment is a major incentive to economic action in a market economy. However, it brings about manifold negative social and economic consequences as well. They are most visible in developing or inefficiently operating labour markets. Q 2. Zambia is currently hosting a variety of foreign investments concerns. Give a critical assessment of these firms in as far as their contribution to the social and economic development of the Zambian society goes

While critics of globalization view the foreign ventures of multinational corporations as damaging exports, jobs, and wages at home and abroad, an exhaustive review of research into the effects of "foreign direct investment" credits multinationals with being far more beneficial than detrimental to the socio – economic development of the Zambian society. The paper analyses that there is little evidence that multinationals are guilty of the "many evils that are alleged."This paper examines if a country like Zambia is able to achieve technological transfer from foreign direct investment (FDI). An argument is advanced that legislation on its own is not sufficient to attract foreign direct investment. It is argued further that in attracting foreign direct investment to Zambia there is need also to look at the socio-economic, political and cultural climate in the country.
The first part of the paper presents an overview of the economy of Zambia. Second part discusses contribution direct foreign investment and overview of DFI in Zambia. In the past few years, the non-traditional export sectors have emerged and contributed to growth, jobs and....
