INDIVIDUAL AND SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT

Using Hofested theory, explain  and show how culture has an influence on human behaviour?

2.0 Introduction

The paper discusses how culture has an influence on human behavior using Hofested theory. Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory is a framework for cross-cultural communication, developed by Geert Hofstede. It describes the effects of a society's culture on the values of its members, and how these values relate to behavior, using a structure derived from factor analysis.

2.1 Definition of culture

The nature of culture is pervasive and broad which requires a detailed study of language, knowledge, laws, religions, food, customs, music, art, technology, work patterns, products and other artifact which give the society its distinctive flavor. We live in a vast area of multi cultural communities and culture exists in our societies all over the world. The meaning of culture is ambiguous in nature, it is used to describe many different things. Culture has been interpreted with lots of definitions over time by various research.

Culture is the society personality and it helps to distinguish one society from another (Schiffman, 2000). De Mooij (2004) refers...continue reading

Chabota was awakened by a noise outside.A crowd had gathered behind her house.Rose Chendabwabwa was the centre of attraction. She was being dragged in the street naked whilst others were venting their anger on her.She was caught in the act with someone's husband.Beatrice Zulu one of the married women in the crowd shouted " you prostitute you are it again , sleeping with our men - fix her so that she can learn to say no" influenced by Beatrice sentiments Kokomalimba emotionally slapped the accused and she fell down with her nose breeding. When she asked why she was going with married men she said " how do you expect me to make ends meet considering the fact that i did not go far in education " the crowd was puzzled.

As an expert in social issues ( Social Psychology explain to the community members on attitude formation, the link between attitude and behaviour and how you can bring about  attitude change for the young lady using appropriate theories and principles.

 Introduction

Why? Why would a single (or even attached) woman chase after a married man when she knows that he's attached to another woman? Easy, it starts off because, as is the human condition, the food on someone else's plate always looks (and sometimes tastes) better than what you're having. In explaining why such things happens and usually have a more immediate influence on us when we are actually in their presence, its important to undertand attitude, its formation and how it can be changed. All these are in Social Psychology, which some psychologists claim that all psychology is social psychology as all our behaviour takes place in a social setting, even when alone our behaviour tends to influence others. Social psychology looks at interpersonal relationships of how people brand different impressions and views of other people and groups in society which affects their behaviour. It examines the impact that society and interaction has on attitudes and behaviours. In this essay it will examine  how attitude are formed , the link between attitude and behavior and how one can  bring about attitude change for a young lady by the name of Rose Chendabwabwa who was fonmd os sleleping with married men in the society. The essay uses appropriate theories and principles.

QUESTION

In recent times, tribalism and ethnicity has emerged as a generative theme in Zambian social and political development. Using the play 'Builders and Destroyers' by Dickson M Mwansa, these are three articles from different social media. Supported by your own knowledge and skills in qualitative research, identify and analyse major and minor themes emerging from the conversations.
Length of essay should be 14 to 15 pages in Times New Roman, font 12.

ABSTRACT SAMPLE

Tribalism and ethnicity has emerged as a generative theme in Zambian social and political development. It is against this background that the essay use the play 'Builders and Destroyers' by Dickson M Mwansa, with the help of other articles from different social media in identifying and analyzing the major and minor themes emerging from the conversations. In Builders and Destroyers, the playwright explores the divisive nature of ethnicity whose stranglehold is defeated by the love between two young people whose love rises above prejudice.

Kabaso (2016:9) notes that, “tribalism in Zambia is not new, it existed even before Zambia got her independence in 1964. In 1968 political conflict, vicious tribal divisions and fights had become so bad at the UNIP’s National Council conference hall in Chilenje.......Order now by clicking here OR CALLING US  ON 0974376553  for similar works.

PAM 3030  HUMAN RESOURCE AND LABOUR RELATIONS

Following the president’s directive to effect a triple retirement age. Explain the major challenges that the human resource department will face in implementing this new human resource policy.

The question of what the minimum statutory retirement age should be has sparked debate in Zambia. This follows the announcement by President Lungu that new government to increase the minimum pensionable age from 55 years to 65 years. THE retirement age in Zambia is now 65. The law has been stamped and it is now a legal standard, period. This means that all those who were due to retire at age 55, which has been prevailing for the last decades, will now continue working until they are 65 years old. The new minimum state pensionable age would remain mandatory to the public and private sectors, with all employees continuing to make their contributions to NAPSA through their employers, as set out under existing legislation. Given the above situation, this essay aims at discussing the challenges that the human resource department will face in implementing this new human resource policy.

The Government’s proposal appears to be based on the belief that increasing the minimum state age of retirement is absolutely necessary because the current age limit discriminates against those who are willing to work longer (Kamwengo,2001). President Sata explicitly noted that “people still wanted to continue working even after they had ….Read more.
Discuss the view that non-state intervention in industrial relations is intervention in favor of capital.
The role of the state in modern capitalist economies can hardly be ignored. Whether through legislation, macro-economic policy or its role as an employer, the presence of the state is pervasive. Zambia like many other developing countries has developed an Industrial Relations System in which the state plays an active role. As in other African Countries, the state through its most powerful apparatus-Government have accepted and are applying the policies based on the belief that the other parties in Industrial Relations System (workers and Employers) cannot be left entirely to regulate all aspect of the work system. It is against this backdrop that this paper argues against the statement that non-state intervention in industrial relation is intervention in favor of capital.

Practically discuss Zambia's decentralization policy to that of Uganda. In your view, which of the two is more progressive than the other?
Conclusion
The purpose of this paper was to examine the Zambia’s and Uganda’s decentralization. The Decentralisation policy in Zambia has not performed to expected standards in the recent past compared to  Uganda  which has developed a local government system based on the constitution and an elaborate Local Governments Act. The local council structures described in this paper are Uganda’s primary institutions for the promotion of good governance, increased people’s participation and improved service delivery. Most service delivery indicators show positive improvements. Thus, we conclude that decentralization in Uganda has not only opened up opportunities for empowerment of the people, but has also led to improvements in service delivery…….

Distinguish between power and authority. Demonstrate how a high degree of Legitimacy can make governance easier.
Many people often wonder what difference is between power and authority. Power is often identified by people who hold a particular office or position. For example, many would refer to the President of the United States as a very powerful person. However, the President does not have the authority to do as he or she wishes. Legislation cannot be passed by the President just because he or she wants it. This paper endeavors to distinguish power and authority and after this it shall demonstrate how a high degree of legitimacy can make governance easier and finally, conclusion will be drawn based on the discussion in the paper.

Define Bureaucracy. Using examples explain the application of the tenets of bureaucracy in modern management and highlight its short coming.
This paper will define Bureaucracy and by the use of practical examples it will explain the application of the tenets of Bureaucracy in modern management and will highlight its shortcomings.
Max Weber was a German historian and sociologist (1864 – 1920) who played a major role in the development of a system of organization called bureaucracy. He is referred to as the father of bureaucracy. Bureaucracy emerged from problems associated with big business enterprises and increasing complexity of government operations. According to Weber, bureaucracy is an approach to management by office or position rather than a person. Weber designed patterns of relationships to guide complex organizational activities in a systematic manner to fulfill the needs of clients. He…….READ MORE
Assignment Three

Using practical examples, discuss the pros and cons of the unitary and federal system of government.

With pros and cons meaning ‘advantages’ or ‘merits’ and ‘disadvantages’ or ‘demerits’ (Longman dictionary, 2011: 703) respectively, it is the aim of this task to discuss these two models. It will begin by discussing the unitary system and then the federal system will follow while providing key definitions to the models. A case reference to Zambia and Nigeria shall be adhered to as required while notable current examples in any of the countries shall be cited. In each system discussion, the merits and demerits will be forwarded and a conclusive understanding or view will give it an end.

The Unitary System
The term unitary stems from the word ‘unit’ which means ‘one part of something, that is whole or complete in itself but is also part of the bigger part’ (Longman dictionary, 2008:  975). Since a government system does not only encompass the mechanism of government…..READ MORE

Society and Culture

Introduction

Culture and society are two related concepts that mean different things to different scholars. Culture makes society and society influences culture, meaning that there is interdependence between these two terms. It is the core of this paper to discuss the notion that the society without culture is as good as dead. Numbers of examples have been used in the paper in supporting the discussion.

According to Margaret and Howard (2005:37) “Culture is the complex system of meaning and behaviour that defines the way of life for a given group or society. It includes beliefs, knowledge, values, morals, art, laws, customs, habits, language and dress, among other things culture includes ways of thinking as well as patterns of behaviour.” ...........................

Sociedade e Cultura

THE WAY SOCIOLOGIST STUDY SOCIAL PROBLEMS BEGINS FIRST WITH THEIR VIEW ON HOW THE WORLD WORKS BASED ON THEORIES THAT VARY IN THEIR WAY ANALYSIS. WITH PRACTICAL EXAMPLES , DISCUS THE MAJOR  SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES ON SOCIAL PROBLEMS AND INDICATE WHICH PERSPECTIVES CAN BEST EXPLAIN SOCIAL PROBLEMS IN ZAMBIA.

SAMPLE INTRODUCTION..........

Social problems are interrelated Debate in society centers on; the causes of social problems; who is responsible for the problem and solutions to the problem. Many individuals experience one or more social problems personally. For example, many people are poor and unemployed, many are in poor health, and many have family problems, drink too much alcohol, or commit crime. When we hear about these individuals, it is easy to think that their problems are theirs alone, and that they and other individuals with the same problems are entirely to blame for their difficulties. It is the core of this paper to discuss the major sociological perspective of social problem and provides one perspective to best fit Zambia.

Bulungwe (2012:32) defines a social problem as “any condition or behavior that has negative consequences for large numbers of people and that is generally recognized as a condition or behavior that needs to be addressed.”
In view of Bulungwe’s definition above, when one has not eaten for 10 days, it cannot be considered a social problem ............................................................................................................
............................................................................................................

In conclusion, Social problems are conditions that; affect the quality of life of a large number of people; affect cherished values and can be remedied. Functionalism, Symbolic Functionalism and Conflict Theory are the three major sociological perspectives that explain social problems. In Zambia, social problems stem from conflict in power relations. Rich and powerful are able to determine what conditions and behaviors are defined as social problems. The politicians are in position to control policies and welfare of its people.

GOOD GOVERNANCE IN ZAMBIA A SUCCESS OR FAILURE.

What do you understand by the term, Good governance” in your won opinion how do you assess Zambia’s record in achieving good governance? How do you justify your answer?

Governance implies to the way people are ruled either with or without their consent. The way people are governed can be bad or good. It is therefore important that citizens should distinguish the difference between good and bad governance in order to fully understand the type of government, which rules them. The paper explores the meaning of good governance. Using Literature analysis, it finds the evidence that good governance and past human development determines present human development in Zambia. That means good governance can be considered as the policy variables through which we can obtain high economic growth and human development in the country. The paper accordingly suggests Zambia has not yet achieved good governance but with better institutional mechanism the country can put its development process in the higher ladder of growth and human development. The lack of same may affect the development process, particularly to achieve sustainable economic growth and human development. Hence .....GET THE FULL ESSAY.
