BOOK REVIEW

When people talk about the poorest countries of the world, they often refer to them with the general term Third World, and they think everybody knows what they are talking about. But when you ask them if there is a Third World, what about a Second or a First World, you almost always get an evasive answer. Other people even try to use the terms as a ranking scheme for the state of development of countries, with the First world on top, followed by the Second world and so on, that's perfect - nonsense. Third World countries are often singled out as an example of a region where particularly rapid urban growth is taking place without economic growth. This paper argues that Economic development in third world countries; it is a myth and not a reality. It is a subject on papers rather than in the lives of people. The author point hinge on the aspect that if a third world is economically developed there will be certain economic indicators that should show this. However, third world countries are known to have high rates of poverty rates, debt, unemployment, infant mortality rate.

The book is organized in two parts; the first part is the definition of the key concepts as used in this paper. The concept of a myth has been discussed in relation to the question under discussion.  Third world as used in this book has been discussed to include Third World"  as developing countries such as of Africa, Asia and Latin America. The term Third World includes as well capitalist (e.g., Venezuela) and communist (e.g., North Korea) countries, as very rich (e.g., Saudi Arabia) and very poor (e.g., Mali) countries. Economic development as used in this book refers to the scope of economic development  that includes the process and policies by which a nation improves the economic, political, and social well-being of its people.
Part two discusses what constitutes economic development and compares with the current situation in the third world countries. It has been argued that a country which is developed economically has a high Gross Domestic Product, increased promotion of employment, educational skills, and reduction of poverty and increased flow of income among its citizens.

Lastly the book presents the conclusion on a note that third world countries economical development is a myth, it is in the state of growth and has been therefore an expected imagination  in the lives of may in these nations.
